Well I hit this property til midnight last night 6 hours worth and this pin has my heart pumping can't wait to see what it actually is, it's gotta be war related!! This site dates to 1890 from what I can gather but I think people were here since the 1850's due to the 1853 half dime I pulled!! Anyhow this other little thing I have no clue about but I'm very interested in it! That little piece of black metal on the back is a piece of spring steel I believe!! So lets hear it fellas I'm taking all opinions at the door!!!!! Thanks again

I take it you are asking about the second item as we all know the first is a Boy Scout pin. I have no clue to what it might be but I do not think it is war related.

But no at first I had no clue what the pin was it makes sense though because it was next to a Boy Scout handkerchief holder with a wolf on it

Scott et al. are correct. The "Be Prepared" motto and the "fleur de lis" emblem are used by the Boy Scouts. The B. S. of A. as Scott said is an abbreviation for Boy Scouts of America. Nice vintage Boy Scout item! :icon_thumleft: The second item looks familiar, but I have no idea what it is.

So do you think it's actually from the early 1900's with the 1911 pat. On it Erik or do even the new ones have this

My gut feel is that the 1911 pat year on the back may have been used for several years though my best guess is that it's ca 1930s or before. It's a very nice find and probably very collectible. Check eBay and see if there are any similar items. This may help you get a date on it. The official B. S. of A. site may also have some information for you. Again, a post on the What Is It forum would probably help with the research. :icon_thumleft:

Notice the latches on top of the box.

This forum amazes me. Nice call and a pic to go with it. I would have thrown it in the scrap pile without a second thought.

Any time--it'd be great to get together for some detecting and some good barbeque! :icon_thumleft: Just give me a few days notice so I can stock up on the cold ones for after the hunt ;) Man you've been a fire lately down in your area--I may have to escape the tropical heat of the north east and come down and see you guys :laughing7:
