The Rolla New Era Missouri 1893-03-04

HOPE, Ark., March 2. --- An awful wreck occurred on the St. Louis & Iron Mountain road, one mile north of here, yesterday morning at 7 o'clock. The south-bound passenger jumped the track and the baggage, express, three passenger coaches and one sleeper rolled down an embankment. The sleeper and three coaches immediately caught fire and in a short time were burned. The wreck occurred from a rotten tie at a bridge giving way. No person was killed, but several were badly injured.

The names of the injured are as follows;
MRS. ELIZA MILLS, Helena, Ark.; since dead.
MRS. C. C. THOMAS, Wynne, Ark.; head hurt.
MRS. J. M. FACHARY and four children, Vadiver, Ark.; seriously injured.
M. CUMMINGS.
H. H. MANNING.
MINNIE MARCUS, Louisville, Ky.; badly bruised.
EZRA TAYLOR, Paint Rock, Ala.; arm bruised.
G. W. CHEEK, Evil Way, land agent; arm fractured.
MRS. E. C. HOREE, Chicago; arm badly cut.
W. B. FOSTER, Battle Creek, Mich.; back mashed.
C. W. LOBDY, Pullman conductor; leg mashed.
MRS. BURLEIGH, West Virginia; slightly injured.
F. H. HOPKINS.
J. E. RAY, New York; bruised.
R. E. and J. J. ROBERTS, Columbus, Ky.; heads injured.
W. C. EDWARDS, Lewisburg, Tenn.; seriously injured.
MR. NEFF, of Illinois; seriously hurt.

The injured are being properly cared for by the railroad company.
