That's one example, here's another.
Manager's of apartment projects were sometimes give tne perk of free laundry--so they would use painted coins given to them by the owner. When the coins were collected, the painted coins would be returned to the manager.

Yep ! most Any place that Needed to keep coins separate
Did this. was easier to spot in a pile of change then counterstamps

Love this explanation but I still like to find them counter stamped coins..
