If we compile a list of public lands where MDing is banned:
1 We don't waste effort detecting there.
2 We can review the rules banning them and find ways in which to make a positive impression AND possibly MD anyhow (restrictions and such may apply)
3 We can seek legislation to change the rules so we can MD.
4 (last resort) We build a legal case denying a right to use of publicly funded property. This legal argument has been valid in touchier subjects than MDing. See the case in the recent news where Utah public colleges, as publicly owned property, must allow concealed weapons on them as determined under this argument (or variant thereof).

So far I know Lacey allows MD.
Thurston County does not.
The state does with posted restrictions.
Tacoma Power does not.

Here is a site to get some good info on metal detecting in Washington State. Click on meetings and contact Ron, Terry or Chuck. These guys have devoted alot of there time and money protecting and promoting detecting here in Washington thru the years and they are the reason many of the state parks are open to detecting today. They are great guys and I've hunted with these guys many times in the past.
