Besides the internet, what other places can I go to gather data on historical events in my neck of the woods?

Where can you find old newspapers?

Where can you research battles?

For any county in the USA, where are records kept and what kind of access does the public have?

I am researching the Battle of Hondo Creek need to find other ways to get info besides the internet.

ANy tips for digging up historical info or where to find it is most appreciated.

Thanks

Good sources are: The Public Library, The State Historical Society, County Seat- Land Records and Tax Assessor ( to find land owners), Old news papers can be fouind in the archives at the library and at the newspaper offices. Civic organizations such as DAR Daughters of the American Revolution, VFW, etc., Museums especially those dedicated to historical events, that's about all I can think of right off the top of my head.
