How big of a whole do you dig?

My detector shows the approximate size of the object... And if you are good at pin-pointing it... How "tight" do you cut around the object?

I'm looking at shovels and I'm trying to figure out if I should be digging a 3" plug, or a 2" plug, or a 6" plug.. Just curious what others are doing.

3" horseshoe plug on a coin. Use a towel for the dirt. I could clean out your yard when you were gone and never know i was there ;D

Well.. In that case.. I'll never tell ya where I live!!! :) hehe.

Thanks for the info... I saw a reference to the horseshoe... That's where you leave one edge attached and flip it over right?

Actually, I was wondering the same thing. (I received a detector for Christmas. I never thought that I would be able to use it in January.) Since I don't have a pinpointer yet, I've dug some BIG holes in my yard. I hope I get better digging, or nobody will let me search their property!
