How do you clean a shield nickle?

Thanks Monty, I killed an Indian Cent that way too. :-\ I dont know if peroxide will hurt it either. :dontknow:

I used vinegar and salt but I wasn't very happy after I did. It took the reddish color off of it but I lost a lot of detail too. It depends on what you prefer I guess. Here are pics of the one I cleaned.
