How do you price Lego?

Went to several garage sales yesterday- usual toys, kids clothes, cd/dvds, books, glassware, etc., etc.
I always ask if they have any LPs or Lego. At one, the mother of the young lady doing the sale indicated she has some of both at her home. I gave her my name and number, and today, she rang, saying she has a large box of Lego, comprising several sets, including the booklets that came with the sets. Problem is, how do you work out the value of used Lego. I don't want to do the wrong thing by her, and I don't want to feel like I'm being asked to pay too much. I have the feeling the Lego is in very good condition, although at this stage I haven't eyeballed it.
Any advice will be appreciated.

The price depends on what of the type of set you get. I would take some time to be sure that the are complete. Star wars or other super hero or movie related sets are very good as they are cross collectables. The box is always adds value too. All "mini figs" small lego people go for a premium over loose legos and you can sell them seperately. I would ask for a list of what she has and check ebay to see how much they are going for. My plan would be to offer 1/2 of that and come up to 60-65%. If you come up a little she will feel like she is getting a good dealand you'll still make $ . Let us know how things work out.

The money is in the minifigs, loose Legos are easy to come by. Star Wars are the most collectable. Ebay sellers and buyers seem to set the price, for example sellers may all put a rare fig up for a rediculous Buy-it-now price and if they all do it and you need that one you end up paying that price. The one thing we haven't found was a way to find the other people that collect them, they are out there but we yet to find any club or website for collectors.

Flickr has several large groups of lego collectors on it . Most of the groups have poeple or websites linked to them that have forums and other stuff like that . That would get you into the collector circle . For the most part these guys and gals know there prices and will pool together to get what they want some days . Alot run bricklink stores .

are all good sites to get lego info . Brickfest and lego stores are good places to get in touch with groups and collectors . Just like comic book stores and comicons are good for comic and collectibles .
