I a normal day, how many hours do you swing the detector? I have a buddy that will go from sun up to sun down. I tend to move at a slower pace and enjoy the surroundings getting in about half as much swing time. Just curious!
I usually hunt 4 hours, stop an hour for lunch and then hunt for another 4 hours. That is yard, park, or beach hunting. Cache hunting is another story. I go to the location in a motorhome and stay for maybe a week or two. During that time , the sun sets my hunting hours. Frank
It's all going to vary, depending on who works or is retired. But I own a pool co. and in the summer I may have to go up to three months without detecting, where as Dec. and Jan. where dead in the water, and I'm able to get in up to thirty hours a week.
Being retired I have the option to do as I please. However, there are still chores to do, finances to keep up, oil to change, dishes to wash and meals to cook. When I make a day of it I do three hours in the morning, take a break and then three hours in the afternoon. Beyond that, my shoulders tire. They are not what they used to be. If it is real hot, I skip the afternoons. If it is way cold, I skip the mornings. All plans are adaptable and there are no plans anyway!
I agree with Toby I run a mobile mechanic shop and right now I'm in my dead time do I'm out all the time right now I'm not sure what the summer is going to bring me.
If my buddy could keep up with me, I would do it from sun up to sundown..Hell...sometimes i get home and i could go back out at night..the more digging you do, the more you are gonna find
I have 2 screws in my left ankle and 11 screws and 2 plates in my right ankle plus I have titanium and 4 screws in my back. Digging time for me on a good day is about 4 hours. If I travel very far for a hunt, I just pace myself and take plenty of breaks so I can stay longer. A pocket full of pain pills helps too. Sometimes I put my dectector in the truck and take a short walk to loosen up my feet. When my feet have had enough I quit for the day.
I would love to hunt all day and have done it before. However, most of the time my obligations will not allow. i.e. work, children, honey do's and the like. In the winter I go after work a couple of days a week until dark. ( usually 45 min.) Some saturday mornings I will go out with my buddy and hunt for 2 hours before everone is up and at it. Wish I could hunt longer. Sometime it seems like I get my machine set up and it is time to go.
