I almost exclusively hunt beaches and shallow water, fresh as well as salt water. Very few times did I hunt a tot lot. If I did, it usually was one close to my beach. I found some clad, one or two pieces of cheap jewelry kids had lost and one copper coin from 1727, which really surprised me. This coin could have got there with the sand they had dredged up at sea 30 miles away and brought here. Or a kid lost one from a collection, I have no idea. Most people here have never met a detectorist and seeing a man hanging around a tot lot might make them uncomfortable having their kids play there. I know tot lots can produce the most unexpected and valuable finds, do prefer hunting my beaches though.
