I was just cruising E-bay and saw a golden Umax up for bid. The auction ends in about 9 hours and the bidding is already up to 500 bucks! I guess its all about supply and demand. But 500 bucks for a Golden Umax? Looks like we have two bidders that really want it bad! If these two bidders were not in the picture, how much would be a reasonable amount to pay for one of these machines?

If it were the "new tones" I would be in there with them.....I would pay $500 for a really nice Golden with new tones. I would pay $700-$800 for a new Golden with GB or a multi tone Vaquero or Tejon.

Good Luck finding a nice Golden for $350......
Go to completed listings on ebay.....they are rarely for sale; so when they are, they bring more money than any other Tesoro. I think 500 is enough for that machine but it does come with several coils including the hard to find 7" concentric....

Considering they sold for 529 new, It looks like this may be the only metal detector that has held its value.

It will be interesting to see what it finally sells for. Surprised to see it escalate like this with so many hours before bid ends. There getting jittery.

Could be shill bidding as well. I have seen several ebay guys bid up their own machines. It's risky, but there are a lot of rubes out there. :skullflag:

Same here, and that would be for one that looks brand new. For $350, there are plenty of choices in very good, used machines. While I wouldn't mind a Golden to play with, I'm having a blast with my current Tesoros. Besides, if the Golden really was a miracle machine, why isn't it still being offered? ('cause it didn't sell..?)

I'm learning that it's all about getting to know your machine, whichever you favor, the locations you choose to hunt, and actually getting out there and digging.
Except for what you lose between the cushions, you won't find treasure sitting on the couch. ^_^

I bought mine in like new condition on eBay. It was a year old and I payed 320.00. They were still in production at the time. Now, no production, rarely on the market. Stands to reason it will hold its value unless it was a complete slouch.

Holy cow Batman! Winning bid $690.00 dollars. This machine when new could be had for about $450.00 from a number of dealers.

Someone will be dissapointed! I bet they've been watching 53 Silvers video, as they were driving up the bid! They just paid double what it is worth.

Let's see if other golden owners start dusting off their machines and list them on eBay. I tend to think not. We'll see.

All i can say is WOW! looks like i won't be getting one of these on ebay any time in the near future. Tesoro needs to come out with a new machine soon. I want a machine with the depth of a Tejon and features of the Golden umax. Now, this may be a tall order to fill but i believe it is possible.

Add a manual ground balance to that. The golden has automatic ground balance and a reputation for not being a deep machine. For me it hits deep enough and I'm often surprised how deep I have to dig.

To me it is no difference than a nice Fisher 1266x bringing $500 on ebay.....and I have seen that also. If you are going to pay 500 for a 1266, why not buy a brand new Tejon with a LIFETIME warranty for a hundred bucks more??? It is all about the "idea" that they no longer make them and they were (in the buyers mind) "superior" machines.

True that DIV. I forgot about the lifetime warranty. Yea in that case I'd probably do it but you have to be smart about it too and not pay 100 more for something you could get from a dealer with the same lifetime warranty. I realize a lot of old outdated machines go for a premium especially with a warranty but there are other superior new machines at the same price you pay for old. To each their own. If I had the money I couldn't say I wouldn't jump on a nice used tesoro to add to my collection

I own a Golden Umax. You can change the tones by manipulating the notch window from 12 old clock to the right or to the left of 12 old clock. It will change the tones for pulltabs and gold rings from 10K to 18K.
Also, if you do a perpendicular sweep, (up and down not too fast and if the tone is the lowest tone, then it is definately a bottle cap). I know where to get a brand new Gumax for about 595.00 CND. If you you want to know, just let me know and I will give you the link to it. You may or may not have to pay Doody.
HA ha. If you paid $1000.00 it wouldn't be too much!
