Hi All. I found this last night at a 19-teeens home site. Can't see one like it on the net. Judging by the patina and rusted off clasp, it looks like it could be fairly old.

Please let me know if you have any info on the age or significance of this thing.

Thanks and HH. C9

From the style of it and the way it's made, leads me to think it's from the 1920s to 1930s.

I'm with Tamrock. 1920's - 30's. Too bad the back mark is a weak strike. I'm guessing the name is LABBE because that seems to be a fairly common name in Massachusetts. But I can't find anything for "E. LABBE".

BTW - Your photos are excellent. Sharp. Hi-res. Size reference.

Hello DCMatt. Thanks for the reply, research, and comment re my photos. I try to get good images before posting. As I am sure you know, sometimes the camera sees what the naked eye cannot.

BTW your are correct about the back strike...too weak to make out. In your opinion is the weak strike the owner's or maker's name?

Good luck. C9

No question it is the maker's mark. I think it says E. LABBE, then SPRINGFIELD (minus the S) MASS. But I could be wrong... If you can find a city directory for Springfield , Mass from the 20's or 30's, you might find the name and confirm the date range. I couldn't find a city directory on-line.

Wow! Bramblefind! Awesome research!

I find F.E. Ladd is the Municipal Register of the City of Springfield (Mass.) for 1911 as a badge maker.

Looks like he was doing business in the 1890's. here is his 1892 patented spoon with a rifle as handle:

I think it is F.E. Ladd - who is Frank E. Ladd. Here are a couple other badges by him-

Also here he is listed as a Past Potentate of Melha Shrine in 1911 -1912

Hello Bramblefind. I am impressed with the info you dug up on this pin! Very nice job and thank you very much!

Based on your post it may be 20 or so years older than the 1930's or 40's that I was thinking.

Kudos to you, good luck, and may the finds be with you. C9
