I think the most important thing for succesful Relic hunting is...proper research!
We always look for historical battles, marches of soldiers or camps on the web n try to read as much as possible on the subject..
Next we look for OLD maps of that time..so we can pinpoint exactely where it all took place!
Then we take a transparant piece of plastic, lay it over the map and draw with a 'removable' marker the course of the soldiers march or the outline of the camp on it..
Now we take a 'present time' map of that area (preferabel the same size as the old one..) and lay the plastic sheet over it.
This way we can see if they build houses on our chosen spot or if some highway runs directly over the soldiers march now..
Now that we know our historical facts, made sure its dig-able (nothing blocks the site) and we're able to identify some of the artifacts on the spot (cause we read our history), we are ready to go!
