Im in South East Virginia. Would i be able to find any? I know meteors dont just fall in Arizona, they fall randomly all over the world, but i would think they would weather faster here than in Arizona. I have the Tesoro Cibola with a 9 by 8 coil. Will it work ok? Where should i hunt? Plowed fields? Should i make my own coil? Thanks for the info, HH

Yes! I do my hunting in plowed fields ..Don't let anyone say it can't be done..
Always ask permission and let the farmer know what your doing..he will be more likely to let you on his land, if your honest with him.Any metorite you find is the land owners by law also!!!So know this and stick with it in mind, so you don't get caught with a law siute,That's if you plan on doing dishonest hunting procedures.
Public State owned land is a NO where ever that is anywhere in the U.S.A...but with all the fields there is plenty of hunting..Have fun and be safe!

Here are a few links to get your juices flowing

Steve Arnold and his Pallasite

I'm not sure who built his detector, its a Pulse Induction with a huge coil

Here is Don Stimpson. He's in the same area. Has a pic of his detector

Of course you have to know one when you see it. Here is the MeteorWrongs page

This one has some locations

If a meteorite belongs to the farmer who's land you found it on, why bother? Now, if you can get the farmer to agree (in writing) to split the money from your find, it might work out. But, in my experience most people get real weird when you try to get them to sign something the first time you meet them.

Having recovered over 20+ meteorites, here's the tip.

Forget using your detector...
1. You can only cover 1 acre/day.
2. Your detector won't find meteorites unless you have a detector for prospecting (gold) that finds minerals.

Buy a meteorite off of ebay from a REPUTABLE DEALER. A NWA stoney is fine. Take it to all the farmers and ask if they've plowed up something like that in the last 20 years. If they have and you know how to confirm its real, then buy it for $100/lb.

This is what I do. Its simplistic, effective and profitable.

I've also leased a farm that meteorites have been found on. I have a special cart mounted PI detector that covers a 3m wide swath and I can cover 8 acres a day. Even still, I averaged 4 days per find, and that was at the best spot in the strewnfield. I spent over $5,000 to get it all set up not including my time. Its just not worth it.
