There is story of Indians hiding gold in a cave in the Eagle mtns. out there. You can do little research, and find it on the net. Wish I knew more. Good luck, and HH......

If you get Lost Tresure magazine there is an article in it about the a gold ledge in the Eagle Mountians, at Eagle Springs. It's very interesting. Good luck.

Travel, you need to research Hudspeth Co for it's geological features.
If your library can't help you when you get to the area on your trip find
a library, a museum or a historical society. That and the internet will give
you a head start. I never heard of lode or placer mining there but research
will give you some clues. In the back of my mind I seem to recall good
agate specimens being found nearby. If you will do your own research and
then ask for specific questions someone on here will see you are trying and
help out.

Trying to be helpful also. Some newbies think all they need to do is
ask directions to the gold and that is all they need to do. In Texas we
ask for help as a last resort. Didn't mean to offend.

Travel, I have some bad news and some not so good as far as gold in
the Finlays. The Permian Basin is famous worldwide for it's OIL production.
If you go to Campagrande Draw you will find calcareous rock on a base of
limestone conglomerate about 25 ' thick, Fredericksburg fossils from the
Early Cretaceous Age. There are several large Talc mines to the NW.
I can find no mention of valuable metals found in the area. The only
reference to a gold mine at Sierra Blanca was from a NY Times article in
2001 announcing the closure of a venture beginning in 1992 called " The
Sludge Train". NYC exported 250 tons a day of treated sewage to Sierra
Blanca to a site outside the town. It was humorously called a gold mine
for the economic boost it gave the town of about 600.
Sorry but if you want gold you would do better going farther West.

Well, you do know your way around then. Had any luck at Quartzite?
I'm familiar with Colorado too, mainly in the San Juans. I've had good
luck in N. New Mexico and have been to the gold fields of Arizona several
times. Also went to a GPAA Outing at Zortman, Montana in the Little
Rockies. Love to pan that yellow stuff.

My wife, and I made a trip to Cripple River out of Nome Alaska last year. I was cold, and misting rain most of the time, but we had a great time prospecting. Found a little gold while we were there, and met a lot of nice folks. Would like to make a trip to Georgia one day, but I don't know when we will be able to to that. Happy Hunting, and hope you find lots of Gold.

Old River:

Did GPAA provide you with gold detectors on your Nome trip and how
did you get the gold?

They will furnish you with a sluice box on the beach. That where you get the gold. Everybody get a little gold. You can bring your own detector with you if you want. There were some that had one with them. I don't know if they found any gold with them, but one guy found a diamond ring on the beach there. Any way it was a very nice trip.
