Human tooth charm?

Very unusual find on private property. It appears to be a human tooth "crafted" into the shape of a cat. There is a diamond in the belly, and the "heaviness" indicates it may be gold. It has a loop that looks like it was from a pendant or charm. Hopefully there's some one out there that will recognize what it is, and can shed some light on the matter. View attachment 718559

Wow, that is both amazing and very strange! Just shows that art is where you find it. Or dig it, lol. If it's a human tooth, maybe a dentist has this hobby on the side but I doubt he'd have any buyers for his creations. Or maybe an old retired lady like me has too much time on her hands & made it.
Thanks for posting this photo and best wishes for a terrific detecting year in 2013 too! WELCOME TO T-NET! Andi

While I can't say I ever heard of someone using teeth for craft projects, during the latter half of the 19th century and the earliest part of the 20th, women frequently fashioned jewelry and keepsakes from their hair. In fact, if you find complete antique lavatory sets, a hair container called a hair reciever was always included. I guess it isn't too far a reach to use human teeth.

That's kind of skeery looking but nonetheless cool.

I've dug two human teeth while detecting or bottle digging, but that is one cool item!

Is it safe?
(What movie is that quote from?)
