and I have not had a chance to get any reference books yet. This is what I found today. Hunting a civil war and rev war farms. These are some really small balls... but larger than .22. They dont look modern to me with my very limited experience. Found this tear drop bronze with what looks like silver plaiting on it. I dont know if this is part of a uniform insignia or bling of a rifle or musket...something else. What do you guys think. 20160201_190007.jpg 20160201_190126.jpg 20160201_190208.jpg

Ok relicnut, thanks. I never knew such a thing exsisted. How were they fired? For me that means the big one is still out there.

All four were loaded together. Had to be a nasty round. We find quite a few on ground that's been hunted hard. Not sure if newer detectors pick them up better or if they were passed up for better signals. Google CW buck and ball and you can get lots of info.

Thanks again. I just looked up B&B on the internet. Yep that is a nasty load. The signal Im getting in on my deus is only about 55-65 weak little squeak. Could be some didnt want to bother with that weak signal. I am new and eager, plus I have dug 3 buttons, one Colonial and 2 civil war, so I am digging just about everything . I am also in an aluminum slaw field. What part of VA are you in?

Front royal has been good to me. I found a cavalry camp there where I unearthed 39 Spencer's in one hole with 9 intact and my buddy found 12 in another hole.

I would like to get in on some of that action. Right now I am learning my machine. Right now I am thinking if I can find these small relics, when I get to a really good location I wont have any problems

Really cool finds.
The 55-65 signal range could be anything from a gold ring to a nickel, depending on the frequency you're using.
Congrats on your finds

If you want to read more about them, look above. Search on the right for your shape, some are 17th C. We find medieval types in the UK.
