Officially I have a problem... I could not resist and went for a half hour. I saw above freezing readings and hoped for looser soil. No such luck. I only jack hammered about 5 holes total but happened upon this '46 Rosie. It rang in at a shaky 12-44/45 but I remembered what Vino told me about a 12-45 almost always being a Merc and went for it.

She's rough and had so much crud that I thought she was a wheatie. One small shiny edge gave her away.

Stay warm!

Thx. The ground around here is frozen 4" deep, or at least where I was digging. At 4" I cut this out of a solid block of dirt. I think I'll take another break for this next deep freeze;)

First step to getting help is admitting you have a problem! Your solution isn't that bad, lol. I texted Cjon last week and told him to shoot me the next time he saw me, 'cause I was watching reruns of American Diggers. He said I was just going through withdrawals, lol.

It's so bad, but at least our wives get reminded they have husbands, and not dirt covered wookies that clean filthy things in their basement...

Yep, central Jersey is a tundra. The rain may loosen up the soil a little. Nice find-silver is silver.

that was what I was hoping for but I think the water just soaked in and froze it even worse. I was stomping on my 18" lesche while wiggling to get it in the ground!

Nice! You were rewarded with silver! Hard core! Congrats!

Those must be heavy duty clod busting boots your wearing to pound that 18" lesche into the frozen tundra!
