I'm sick I found a button and I hit it with my shovel. Where there were 2 there are likely more. Lesson learned. I have a feeling you will dig the next one in great shape.

Won't be the last time either. Don't lose your marbles over it.
You'll forget all about it in a week or two.

You're a good man Rick - to tell him the truth - in the FIRST sentence. But your LAST sentence?! Uh . . .

Tough luck friend. You have my sympathies . . .

**** happens

Hey we've all done it, damaged something at one time or another. That's one of the reasons I now use a pin pointer, but that may not help too much if your using a shovel. Just try pin pointing a little better with your detector.

Time dulls the pain.

Been there, man. I hit a perfect, and I mean perfect, US buckle right between the U and the S. Also hit a perfect Confederate lined C button, not to mention several Gardner bullets. But now I dig way beyond where I think the object is. And then use a digging knife when I know exactly where it is. The Garrett probe helps a lot on deep objects too.

Like has been said already stuff happens. At least you can say that you have found a Confederate button. That is more than I can say.

Don't sweat it. I've done worse, then found better

it happens, but...
repeatedly Squaring a digging tool on a 3.5 inch artifact amounts to looting.
It happens, but ?
If you own a pinpointer, strike THREE,
out.

Dig wide, dig deep, I keep telling myself, and I still have a few hits a year.

At least you'll be more careful in the future, now won't you. :)

At least you don't take wonderful finds out of the ground and then sandpaper them with the grit on your gloves.
Like someone else we all know and love. ;)

Uh-oh you may have angered the ghosts of the Confederacy by doing that. :laughing7:
Nice find anyway

Sorry about your button. If you dig long enough you end up hitting some good stuff eventually. Nice find regardless.

It wont be the last! Diggin the frozen ground it can happen a lot too!! Better Days commin!

I dig big deep holes. I try to get s few inches deeper than my target should be. The thought of nailing a holy grail item is too much. Sorry you hit that baby but you can be happy it was a disme of gold coin. It happens my friend.

Been there, done that. . But I've always wondered, why I have never ever hit and destroyed any of the junk I find.???
