Just when you think you've seen everything conceivably dug you dig up something totally unexpected! I got a large target alert signal on my Fisher and thought that I probably had another aluminum can in the median strip...:icon_scratch:....Digging down 4 inches and out pops a solid brass Gargoyle! ...This thing is a little creepy! Stuck it in my pouch and kept on hunting this median strip that I've pounded to death about 20 times. A silver dime, silver nickel, and 5 wheat pennies would be good for my first 3 hours today.

I drove to the other side of town an continued my hunt at the front of the elementary school that I've been hunting the last 4 weekends and dug out 2 more silver dimes! A 42 merc and a 49 rosie would top off a good days hunt. 13 total wheat pennies would be dug today! I wish all my hunting adventures were as good as it was today !

I agree with Casper 2, it does look more like a Chinese Foo Dog. Gargoyles usually have wings, your find does not.

Also, it may be bronze instead of brass. Bronze casts better and was cheaper.

Anyway, nice finds. Congrats.

I love that little gargoyle, or dog, or whatever he is! If he is a good luck dog then so much the better - we can all use some luck :)
What a great hunt - I find nothing more fun than finding unusual stuff like that.

This Foo Dog theory makes a lot of sense now. I'm hunting a section of San Francisco that has a large Chinese population. I'm running into a lot of interested Chinese people that don't have a clue to what I'm doing swinging that round thing on the end of a stick. ...One Chinese guy stopped me in the middle of detecting a couple of years ago and thought that I was trying to kill the gophers!
