I found a Morgan dollar!!!!!

Well, three quarters of one anyway! I saw this older looking school building this evening on my way home from a job in a neighboring town. I had a little while before dark and my detector in back seat so I said to myself, what the hay! I only detected a couple of minutes along the grassy strip between the school and the curb where I was parked and got a loud hit on my Cibola. I cut a plug ( it wasn't very deep) and first thought it was some kind of scrap metal but after washing it off with some bottled water from the truck I realized it was a MORGAN DOLLAR!!!!!! An 1897-O. It looks like it had a close encounter with a lawn mower

I searched a few minutes more hoping to find the "other quarter" but to no avail only can slaw.
Must have been a very powerful lawn mower!
My first real (not a fake) found Morgan dollar.

Neat find. Pretty worn but still a shame that it has been chewed up. Looks like it may have had a hole drilled in the top

It does have a hole in it...probably worn as a pendant once.

maybe a stupid queston on a great find but how can you tell its a O (new Orlons) Morgan when the mint mark is under the tail feathers on the back side and that looks to be gone?? is there another piece that didn't get posted??

Hey Indy, on the first picture look right above where the hole is....under the eagle. See the "O"? At least I think it's an O.

On second look I do not think that is an "O" just part of the wreath ...
