I have a quick question, please.

In my area they are moving, expanding and widening one of the highways. In order to make room for it they dozed a bunch of old houses that I would guess were built anywhere between the 40's and 60's.

My question is this... is the property owned by the county now? And could I legally go hunt it before they pave over it? Or would I get into trouble?

But I buried a 1 ounce silver eagle and ran the detector over it and it didn't even pick it up. A big silver eagle! Instead of beeping, the detector just cut out and made no noise whatsoever. So, obviously, I've still got some learning to do. No telling what I missed over there.

I had lots of fun and it was worth not being able to walk today... :-[

One of 2 things, eaither your discrim setting are blocking the Highest numbers (they do this to keep from lots of false signals) or you might try a Magnet on that coin...
HA ha ha .... maybe its not what you think it is...

The first thing I did was check the coin. It's real... lol

I'm new to metal detecting and I haven't had much of a chance to play around with the metal detector, so I'm sure I have the settings wrong. I'll make sure I get them right before I go out again.

how deep did you bury the silver eagle? I have an x-70 and I can pick up a quarter at 9 inches, You should be able to detect a silver eagle at 12" or more

I only buried it about 3 inches. So yes, it should have picked it up.

IF It picked up Everything Else but that.
and the detector just cut out it
Must Be the Disc setting.

Does the 70 have Notch Disc.

If it does make sure it
is Turned Down Not Up.

YES some Detectors can be set to Ignore Silver dollars
and accept a silver quarter and clad..
My Explorer Could.
