i need a good spot in oregon

i am just beginning and i am looking for a good starting point in Oregon. does anyone have any suggestions

Good starting point for what, exactly?

Metal detecting, gold panning, cache hunting, pocket hunting, "lost" mines, gems or minerals, prehistoric villages, etc.

I have many references to all sorts of things all over the state, but it helps to know where you are, where you're interested in hunting, and what you're hunting.
