I have recently taken a liking of [very early 1900s & before HOLED COINS ] since digging one last year ;I am curious if a certain coin would grade say a solid fine ,be it a cent, all the way up to a dollar & it was HOLED at some time , what would the grade now be ag or lower , I suppose it depends on the coin . I'LL use a 1932 D WASHINGTON QUARTER that grades a solid fine BUT it's been holed ,in everyone's opinion what would said Quarter now be worth?..

It's only worth what someone will pay for. For me, holed coins have no reason to be in my collection, so I generally give them away. I had a few holed V-nickels (common dates), so I just threw them in with my CRH dump.

Coined For Money

This person makes an estimate, but again, it is up to the person who is buying how much they will pay for it. There might be a person that will pay more than melt for a common date silver quarter that is holed, since they wanted a necklace. There will be other people who will pay below melt due to loss of silver, or will completely pass on buying the quarter.

Unless it's incredibly rare, a serious coin collector won't want a holed coin. A jewelry collector might.....As Don mentioned, there is an easy way to find out.

Thanks for the reply's . As I stated in the op , I took an interest in holed coins after I dug one [ a 1829 Lib, Cap, Half dime] I was and am still mad it has a hole in it, & after checking it why? it was holed ,Via -the net & the First volume of American Digger Magazine{ A couple issues delved into the ? /Theory of why this was done} Also seeing others on t.net , Coin stores and some dug by fellow local relic hunters > I fig that I might start collecting this type of coin ,just to be a little different . I prefer 1800s silver coins that would be in fine or better condition [other than the hole]. I don't care for the holes to be filled or worn through. As I said I :dontknow: why they started to intrigue me , maybe it's being able to get a [nice looking coin" details and such Esp, Quarters and Larger coins ; for a pretty cheap price ] melt or below. Don is right ,e bay would be a good price source for such items. As stated I prefer Silver BUT non dug Cents & Nickels work to ,if their detail appeal to me. I'm what I would call a semi serious coin collector [ I wont pay over $70.00 on a coin @ this time] & do not care much for slabbed coins "unless it's rare or a key date" but their out of my price range for the most part anyway.
