I think I found my first military button.

Any confirmations on this?
I was detecting a Beach on Lake Erie and found some clad and trash and this 2 piece button.
I noticed the front was slick but the back I could tell there was a manufacturers name and an Eagle.
I threw it in the pouch and just got time to look at this closely.
After seeing Benedict & Burnham I got really excited.
I know this company pre-dated the waterbury button company AND they made political and military buttons.
Could it be?

I cant I.D. it. It looks like the top side has been worn smooth from rolling in the sand and the water. It is a nice button find though.

There should be something on the front of the button. An eagle or anchor or something, it’s thin brass, the image can not rub off like a coin. That confuses me a bit. I hope this turns out to be military.

Most military buttons I find are the scovill mfg. The insignias don't wear off. Its close but no cigar. Keep dirt fishing. There are tons of civilian buttons with eagles on the front and back. Best of luck.

I read somewhere that in the 1800s after the war of 1812 there was a nationalist sentiment against use of buttons which were manufactured in England. The use of icons like the crown were frowned upon and many buttons were produced with images like an eagle instead. I think that's what you may have there.
