I was out in my yard today with my MXT, and I was unable to get an even tone, it was "jumping." The only way I could get a semi-even tone was to turn the Gain way down. Does this mean I need a recalibration? I have had the machine for just over a year and I haven't taken it anywhere for maintenance.

It sounds like you are getting some electrical interference from somewhere. Have you taken it to different locations and tried it. Check all your cable connections maybe some thing is loose. good luck seeya Neilo

What is recalibration? I'm asking, because I was unaware that one might have to send a detector in for a tune up.I'm hoping that is a myth..
