I cant read it, it seems to be made of brass. I found it in front of a one room school house. I could only identify it by size in a coin book. I hope you can see the picture.

Were US coins ever made of brass? I have no idea, but it's not ringing a bell to me...anyone else know?

I guess the flip side to that question is this...what makes you think it's brass and not copper?

Any idea on when the school was built? That might give you an idea of the time frame for the coin.

A US half cent would be made of copper. Try to get some better photos and the people here will definitely be able to help.
