I tried to put a photo next to my name for my posts but couldn't figure out how

Do I need an upgrade? I think I know how to put a photo with my posts...I am talking about a photo with the the name and how many posts etc next to the post.
I now have an avatar...but it is an X not the part I downloaded?

Hi and welcome , if you click on "Profile", just below the banner you go to a page where you can upload a picture to be displayed as your avatar. If you have any problems send me a PM .
