Historic Camp Coldwater Spring For Sale
(AP) Bloomington, Minn. One of Minnesota's oldest historical sites is up for sale.
The federal government closed the U.S. Bureau of Mines Twin Cities Research Center a decade ago. The 27-acre parcel is located between the Mississippi River and the Twin Cities Airport.
The land was once part of historic Fort Snelling. In 1820, soldiers at what would become Fort Snelling began getting their water from a spring -- called Camp Coldwater Spring -- that still flows from the property's limestone cliffs.
The government is being selective about who should get the land. So far, only non-federal government agencies, Indian tribes or colleges or universities need apply.
The National Park Service holds an open house Monday and Tuesday to get feedback on a draft environmental impact statement for the property. The open house will be held at the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center in Bloomington.
