These "lucky pocket pieces" were from machines often found at carnivals - you put a quarter in and dialed in what you wanted to say, a character at a time, then when you were done, it dropped out. I think somebody has posted pics of an example of one type of machine in the archives. These are very prone to errors as there was no backspace key on the machine - I think the address on this one may be incorrect as my 1908 Postal Street Guide does not show a Murcer St. - it maybe should be Mercer St. These machines are still around, but they are not as prevalent as they once were.
