Forgive me, I'm sure this has been posted before.
On my copper, nickels, and buttons that I find, I usually just use water and a soft toothbrush to clean the dirt off. I don't plan on selling anything I find, so I'm mainly just trying to get them clean so I can display the better stuff. I'm wondering if there's a product that I can use after cleaning that will bring out some of the details of the piece? Like, if you take the dry button and rub over the detailed parts with a wet finger, or even the oils from your skin, you can see the detail better but then it fades as it dries. Is there a product that I can put on that will hold the detail, even when it dries?
I've tried Renaissance Wax on a couple of buttons, but the details don't stay after it has dried. I also assume using olive oil or something similar would probably hurt the object in the long run, yes?
Anyways, hit me with your thoughts!
