This forum is awesome.

History around here says this place I live at 51104304746__39B5B6F2-5F66-4FC9-B986-22AF8B10A78B.JPG was settled in the early 1800s. Found these items about 8 inches deep. No idea what they exactly are.

I will go out on a limb and guess at the "button". it "appears" to be a globe with continents on it. once I blew up the picture I could see that the top of it is North America and Canada and the bottom is South America. and it is missing the middle piece. The second item to me looks like a window or sash locking arm to me. Both just guesses on my part.

Thank you for the reply sir. I showed the globe disc to my friend and he thinks it may be some sort of USMC EGA but missing the eagle and anchor. Your theory about the other piece is exactly what my father in law thought.

The globe might be a button or some kind of badge or broach. Post 1930's I'm guessing. Not sure about the other thing...looks lead but also looks like a handle. Where in ILL are you?

nice! i grew up in Streator. So not too far away. Good luck out there. Get on the GIS sites and historic aerials site and find some good sites. Im sure there are some older farm houses around your area.

Definitely, there's an old school site I found from the 1800s via an old map. I'm pretty new to this, it sure is addicting as heck !

The disc does fit the mold of the USMC Eagle, Globe, and Anchor screwback collar or hat disc.
Congrats on your finds

Welcome to the sport. You found some old relics. That's a great start. Not sure what either of the finds are for sure but they are old. Should be coins around that date to the relics. Keep after it mate. North Central Illinois Lee County here.
