I finally got a chance to detect for a few hours yesterday. I dug a TON of trash...now I am have post-detectorist body pains ;D ;D I didn't find to much but I am happy with what I found. I do have a few questions though. On one button the back is filled with pewter...any estimate on the age? The farm I am detecting was settled around 1792-96 but the oldest things so far is a counterfeit 1825 8-reale and an early 1800's navy button. Also, one of the other buttons isn't a flat button and has no letters on the back, any ideas ??? :icon_scratch:? The musketball was found while detecting near a creek, I had to carve enough of the wood off to be able to see it...nothing exciting but I'm fascinated by it for some reason. The IH is 1886 variety 2 (I believe) but still needs cleaned. The last button is pretty toasted but can anybody make out the manufacturer?? Buckles, if you read this what was your method for cleaning buttons with gold gilt left?

Nice buttons. Congrats.......

Gotta agree with you on the musketball in the wood, that is way cool! When do we ever find bullets still in the thing they entered??

Great hunting spot.

Cool beans dude, those are indeed righteous, especially the button.

Nice finds Kevo, what I like the most is the unusal buckle, at least unusal for me, have never seen that sort before. The buttons are nice too, and the musketball in wood is neat. Nice that you dug it out and saved the wood around it, makes it special. Some guy lucked out that the ball went into the tree and not into him!

Yes, as MonkeyBoy said up above, the lead-filled piece is likely a Rosette.

Nice stuff! You've got a good site there. The musketball is great, probably saved a deer like that pine tree saved a rabbit from my Ithaca saddlegun when I was 11.

Hope to see more from this place you found.
