Looks like Makton scored! Now there are three of these babies:

Think we can get a fourth? I have a silver coin in my hand (not a dime) that I will send to the next T-Netter to dig one of these in '09. Any year - as long as it's one of the small round Illinois registration tags like the ones shown here. For reference, they are two inches in diameter. Mine was shallow and I thought it was a can top before I dug it. Good luck!

Awesome collection guys!
Contest criteria?
Poker rules, Todd wins with a pair of twos.
Joe's two-digit low number wins for likely high-dollar appreciation.

Can't wait 'til I get one sometime!

I will drive back to Wisconsin if I have to to hunt that farm again. The kids must have lost the previous years as well.
I like Joe's with the 2 digits...he found one that belonged to one of the first 100 people that ever registered a car in Ill.
I thought I had found a pretty unique item....thanks for busting my bubbles, guys :icon_scratch:

Keep that bubble inflated, Todd! It is a pretty unique item and a cool find! Even though they made thousands of them, not too many of them are out there just laying around. I think it's cool that we each got one. I've been trying to think of a contest to host here on IL for a while now to have a little fun, and this seemed like a good opportunity. If I posted anything that made you think I was taking away from the coolness of your find, I apologize! That's not the intention here.

Ok, I'm in Neil. Though to be able to find the fourth will require some research and diligence. From now on I'll be ignoring those 8" dime signals and won't be spending precious time bending over for those pesky gold "eyeball" finds. :icon_pirat:

So it's a contest, eh!?! Geez, I'd take you on in nails, pulltabs, canslaw or maybe even clad! But these weird ones, like these tags, are unusual to begin with, let alone you guys coming up with three of 'em all early this season. Hey Todd, I think Joe's is a 1917, so it's not one of the first 100, so you're still good there but that low number is still a biggie!

Back to a freindly competition Neil, MGD caps?

Kimsdad,
I was just poking some fun. I never had any air in my bubble to start.

Lowbatts - I meant the tag belonged to the person who registered one of the first 100 cars in Illinois as I believe from the website, the numbers stayed the same each year. They would have had the same tag number in 1909 as they did in 1917.

I think it's a great idea for a contest and I'll throw in a 1800's coin as well.

Nick,
I can tell you it won't be a 1916D dime... since you have already had one in your hands in the last week :headbang:
I think I am going to hit the old junkyards in Joliet this weekend.
Do you think I should use a 10.5" coil?

Todd,
I would recommend you use on of those 36" x 48" coils you drag behind a ATV., cause the forth tag is mine 'o mine! ;D

Same prize, but I'll also throw in my collection of rotted Zincolns!

I'll see your rotton Zincolns and raise it a dozen nudie tokens.

Awexome, can't wait to see what your prize is Bob! From the sound of this thread, it should be a trophy cup full of zincolns, nudie tokens, MGD caps, all topped off with a mysterious silver coin.
