Today in the mail I received my repaired and restored Indian Wars era hat badge. I dug it early last summer, and it was pretty messed up. I didn't know what it was so I straightened it out. When I realized what it was, I was so glad I didn't snap it into pieces! ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1456528304.869738.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1456528349.052083.jpg

Not long after I straightened it, the screw on the back dried up and fell off. Bummer! Also, the gold plating was totally gone in the places it had been so bent. ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1456528497.365545.jpgImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1456528523.940869.jpg

And here it is, beautifully repaired and expertly restored. I love how it's stable, and restored to the point that it looks really good yet still has the dug relic look to it. I have to thank ANTIQUARIAN for recommending I send it to Roland Frodigh at Hallowed Ground Restorations. I know it wasn't a huge repair, but Roland did it exactly right. Check out his site to see the amazing work he does bringing relics back to life.

Thanks for looking. And with this weather being so crazy, I might even be out digging next week!!

Fantastic result buddy. The restoration/no restoration question is often a tough one. This is a great example of an awesome restoration on a deserving piece

I remember that one JC. They did a great job in restoring it for you. Money well spent:icon_thumright:

That is truly a beauty of a piece, I would have had that one restored too. Congrats!

Great that is a piece of history no longer lost . I alo have a military hat pin maybe Ill get mine restored Nice post!!

That's the kind of restoration that does the piece justice, it was all there and just needed a little tlc to bring back to glory!

Thanks Abe. I agree, it's a tough decision on what needs to be restored and what doesn't. I would have been ok with the missing gold plate and the slight bends, but when the back fell off I knew I should get it fixed. I'm very pleased with the result.

It was really fun researching the guys from the 21st company F from that era. They were a pretty rowdy bunch lol, getting into trouble

Very Nice.
The man does some Very Nice Work.

Man that piece looks amazing! :occasion14:
Roland does great work and he really listens to what you do and don't want restored when it comes to the relic.
Some folks want the piece to look like new and others like yourself want it to look like it's a 100+ year old detecting find!

Thanks for the PM too,
Dave

Don't know what it cost you, but worth it.
I've had just one piece done.
