My daughter tooks these pictures a couple of days ago. The Big Bluestem grass is HUGE right now on the Tallgrass Prairie. It is an awesome sight to see with it waving in the wind. The Bluestem can grow taller than a man on horseback! And can you imagine how beautiful it was hundreds of years ago with great herds of bison roaming across it??
We are blessed to live in such a place and just wanted to share some pics with y'all!
Check out my daughters blog for more Tallgrass pics. : http://themanyadventuresofacountrygirl.blogspot.com/
Hope you enjoy!

That is cool. We did about 140 acres in Switch grass this year. But it is good to see natural grass instead of the fescues every where. If the Switch grass works we can make hay, fuel or moonshine from it :laughing7:

Until I started working on the Tallgrass Prairie, I didn't know anything about Big Bluestem(and the other native grasses). But this grass is so important to the ecosystem and the buffalo. We have seen a really big comeback of the bluestem in the last 20 years or so.
I sure didn't know Switch grass could be used for moonshine, TnMtns :o :laughing9: .

those are great pics, thanks for sharing them ! :icon_sunny:
Thanks allen! Glad you enjoyed them. Most people don't get too thrilled about looking at grasses, but its something we like and my daughter is always looking for different things to take pictures of.

Excellent pics and tell her to keep it up. Looks like she's figurin out that particular time of day for lighting, too. It's nice here in the mountains, but I come from the short grass country of the southern plains. I get homesick sometimes for the prairie.

Yes, the lighting is something she's been trying to learn to use to her advantage, RGINN. She's figured out how to get at different angles to "pull" the suns rays through the object she's taking the picture of.
The prairie grasses are beautiful this time of year.....All of the grasses( like the bluestem, indian grass and switch grass), are seaded out and when the wind blows, it looks like giant waves rolling across the Osage hills.

Fossis................
That cloud picture was from the storm that hit Winfield, Kansas and caused all the damage(last week). We were listening to a Kansas radio station during the storm, and they were telling the people who were at the Winfield Fairgrounds to "get under the grandstand!" when the storm came blowing through there. By the time it got here, it just gave us some rain and winds. It sure looked ominous, though, when those clouds came rolling across the prairie.
Thanks Fossis!
