I own a small part of a military camp in central Arizona and my neighbor has been clearing brush from his lot. He invited me to detect that area so this morning I went over and spent a couple of hours and I found an outstanding eagle breast plate. I soaked it in dish soap and cleaned it with a toothpick then I rubbed vaseline on it to preserve it as much as possible. Over the last 40 years this is the third one I have found from this site. This is by far the best of the three. This site was established in 1865 and abandoned in 1871. DSCF2844.JPG DSCF2845.JPG DSCF2846.JPG DSCF2847.JPG

I think with the unique history of that site and condition, that's a banner find. Dont see much civil war relics from the western territories posted here very often. My vote is in!

That thing is gorgeous!! I've always wanted one but it hasn't happened yet. Congratulations Bud. Very nice find. I agree with what gheenoe78 said. Even here in VA they are hard to find. Much less in that condition.

Thanks for all your comments folks. The ground out here is very challenging, the good news is that most of the finds are less than 6" deep, so a guy has to pick it out but not too deep. Also the ground is very kind to brass and copper.

Hey Gheenoe78; That concrete you mentioned is called caliche( pronounced KALEECHEE) it is natures concrete, as far as having to dig through it, generally we don't have to, it's been there for thousands of years and you won't find anything in it or below it. Thanks for the banner vote!
