OK if you are like me, the Infinium stock shaft sucks. The arm rest wobbles you cant tighten those plastic nuts but so much and the worst of it what were they thinking with the S shaft? Does it hurt your wrist like it does mine?
I had to hip mount mine because of the # shaft and the poor weight balance. I wanted a straight shaft but after looking for one, I was not going to spend $150.00 with shipping for something that should have come with the detector to start with.
So I decided to make my own, First thing I wanted a grip that was secure and angled correct for my hand and providing a firm grip. I also wanted better weight balance for both coils. After a little trial and error I had to make the shaft 6" longer the the S shaft so with the stock large coil the box could be mounted on the rear for perfect balance. I wanted a quality shaft that used, as much of the stock parts as possible.
I used 6062T6 Aircraft Aluminum for the shaft made at the correct dimension to fit the stock connector to lower shaft.
I used a custom handgrip with foam padding; the grip is adjustable so you can move it forward and aft for you proper forearm length.
I used the stock detector box mount with holes in the front for 8" coil, and holes behind the arm cuff for the Stock coil.
I used the stock arm cuff and drilled 3 holes so it can be moved forward and aft, for my detector I drilled the cuff to use all 3 holes at once for no wobble.
I used all stainless steel 1/4 cap bolts washers and lock nuts and tossed the plastic crap.
You reuse the stock lower rod and I have no wobble issue with the 8" coil and a little flex might be a good idea when hitting rocks anyway to protect the coil.
As you can see in the pictures, you can balance detector with one finger on grip with either coil by moving the box. The difference from the stock shaft is much better, I can use the detector now without hip mounting it.
If you are interested in the shaft Oh and the model is mine. Reid [email protected]
