Found these in a couple of different trash pits but I don't know much about them. Maybe Benningtons? If so are they very collectible? Thanks everyone for the help.
I found my very 1st. marble last week digging in an old bottle dump and it kind of looked like yours ,but a little more shinny,it was greyish blue in color.
Looks like 3 Blue Bennies & perhaps a fancy. I can't really see the last one.
I've found many a Bennington in late 19th Century context
"Bennington marbles are a type of glazed clay marble. They are not very dense. The marbles are fired clay with a salt glaze on them. Benningtons are readily identifiable by both their coloring and the little 'eyes' that they have on them. These are spots where the marbles were touching each other while they were being fired, resulting in those spots being uncolored and unglazed. The term 'bennington' is actually a misnomer. There is no evidence that they were ever made in Bennington, Vermont, or that they have any lineage to the Bennington pottery that they resemble and from which they get their name. It appears that all Bennington marbles were imported from Germany." Handmade Non-Glass Marbles
Thanks a lot surf for all the great info. I don't go out trying to collect them but I keep all that I find since they don't take up space. I thought the clay ones were pretty cool. HH
