interesting button. I have personally never seen this one before. must be early as the Haitian revolt took place 1803. My guess would be either a government or militia button. After the revolution the new Haitian government ordered Phoenix style buttons for the military and were numbered. The are 'commonly' dug especially in the western US as they were bought as surplus and traded to the American Indians and Spanish. They date from around 1805-1810. I have never seen your style. neat find and congrats!
