As if it was written in short hand it looks like "blue water". Could be several other characters. Water only has one down stroke. Other ideas? ...................b

by "red cross" are you referring to the "chop"? That is a stamp put on by the maker, (or writer of something) . Something like the stamps that were put on sealing wax. They were common in China before the early days of the Revolution. The characters are often from ancient sets of characters before modern (traditional) characters were created and organized................b

the first symbol is "shi" in the age stamp. piece looks republican period. Stamps honestly dont mean a lot in chinese pottery as 90%+ are faked (has been that way for 1000 years or more) even very old pieces that have been found were at the time dated with a stamp from a previous period as an attempt to garner more money for the artist. Its a very pretty piece, and I think you got a good deal. It is always best to judge pottery on look than markings.

Small update on the vase. I had my girlfriends uncle look over the marks during a weekend lunch. He’s very knowledgeable on Asian antiquities and will pass them around his circle of friends. They should have something for me soon, not that I’m in any sort of hurry to sell it.

As for now, it’s residing nicely in my living room but has since been elevated to a floor speaker for viewing.

Lolol yes to both of these. The second I saw that picture I had a knee-jerk "Noooooo" reaction as if it were a gif and a cat was about to roll it right off the coffee table. And I don't display anything on my speakers due to vibration risk but the other day I set my phone down on one for a second and a particularly bass-y selection hopped it off and far enough away that it took me a few minutes to find.

I’m not worried. The speakers that flank the couch aren’t even hooked up and I have no cats to speak of. The vase is safe
