This is the first time I found a flat button with a "gem" in the middle of it. From the scratches I would guess maybe a glass of some kind? I found it in the same civil war camp site that I have been hunting for months now, it coming to an end unfortunately. There was an old house site in the area, pre civil war I believe. May the button came from there. I also came up with a few eagle buttons and bullets.
This button is awesome, the shank is gone. I still have some cleaning to do. I'm not sure if its got silver in it or not, it doesn't feel like pewter. When I first found it there was still some gold around the center with the stone, as soon as I started cleaning it came off.
I like old locks, this one is rough and looks like it was shot open. The key would have been cool to find.
Couple of Eagle Buttons are always good to find.
I have found the hooks for buckles before, and I think that is what this is. But it looks a little different. It has the triangle in the middle? Is that what this is?
Not a bad group of finds, thanks for the input and HH.
