Cool and interesting find! The back is still legible when enlarged:
Pat'd Mar 13 88
Trade Mark
Reg. July 19 92
MF'D by C.M. Robbins Co.
Attleboro MA

The important parts being that it was patented in 1888 by C.M.Robbins. They made a fair number of GAR medals, which would seem to fit... but I haven't yet found a match.

It's interesting to note that the item was patented in 1888 but the C.M. Robbins company wasn't formed until 1892. It was renamed to Robbins Company in 1912.

Post 1892 object which I would imagine was lost on a visit to the skirmish site by either a veteran that partook in the fight there or someone visiting the site where a loved one had perished. In an aside, what was termed as a skirmish during that period would now be described as a full pitched battle.
