For the Canadian, just use a magnet. If it doesn't stick, its silver.

Canadian dimes
1858-1919: 92.5% silver
1920-67: 80% silver
1967-8: 50% silver
1968-2000 99.9 nickel
2001- present nickel plated steel.

I used to check all 1968 dimes with a magnetic until I found my first silver 1968, then I could see the difference is clear.

Another way, does the 1968 have the same patina as the 1969 you found or is the patina more like a Canadian silver you have found in the past?

MIhunter is right. The 1968 50% silver Canadian dimes have a silver patina that makes it stand out over the plain 1968 non-silver.

...or, if in doubt, just use the magnet.
