Is there such an error as a "partial" clip?

I'll post this in the "coins" forum too but I found it today.

Received this as change from a purchase. I almost wrote it off as post mint damage until I put another dime up to the clipped area. Pretty good fit. Then I noticed that the rim followed the damage into the interior of the obverse face of the coin.

Whaddaya think??

That is not a error coin just a damaged dime. The error you are referring to is known as a planchette error or clipped planchette. Keep looking out you'll find one.
