Could you get a real clear close up of the lighter surface please? I'm not sure if that is pecking or not.

Pecking would look like this.

I will get the pic tomorrow. I'm thinking, if anything, it may be a hammer stone.

I've been turning this over in my hands for a few days now and my belief is that if anything, it may be a hammer stone. The underlying stone is heavy in iron and may have just flaked off the outer layer as it oxidized. I would expect to see that over the entire stone if that is the case though...As always thanks for the insight. I'm just going to keep looking.
