I found this at a sight where I found some 3 ringers. I guessing .52 Sharps Richmond.

It is a civil war yankee .54 Merrill Carbine bullet. Being a Breechloading carbine, which is much easier to load while you are on a horse's back than a muzzleloader, the Merrill was primarily used by the Cavalry, not Infantry.

About your guess... the answer is No, because the CS Richmond Arsenal .52 Sharps bullet has no "rings" on its body.
