Looking to see if anyone could identify this fragment. To me it appears to be a tooth the item is rather heavy and appears to be fossilized. I’ll defer to others that may know better. Found while metal detecting in a field in northern Indiana.

Any help would be appreciated, it’s been a good conversation piece for the last couple weeks.

Your item is an iffy one as to being a tooth. It just doesn't look like what a tooth should be. It kind of looks like the part of a bone near a joint. If you try to lick it with your tongue, your tongue should somewhat feel like it wants to stick to it. That is an indication that what you have is fossil bone. Just a suggestion to help you figure out what you may have there.

Does not appear to be a fossilized tooth to me. could be a piece of petrified wood?
