Hello, I'm new to this site, but I've been researching Cocos Island, The Treasure of Lima, and Benito Bonito for the past year independently.

I've recently been approached to write a long-format article on the history of Isla del Coco and the treasures which may still be lost there. I'll be going to Costa Rica to gather interviews, research, and photos next month.

Any suggestions or leads I might take up in my preparation for the trip from anyone who has been down there?

I'm particularly interested if anyone might refer me to newspaper articles or other documents from the 1800s involving these treasures as those are the most elusive facts: Anything concerning William Thompson, The Mary Dear, Benito Bonito, Mary Welsh, or August Gissler is excellent.

Of course other info is very welcome as well!

Oh yeah, I've been pouring through the site. It's really challenging to dig up any official or real images of documents from the 1800s. Even the dates differ from post-to-post sometimes. I'll edit and get more specific in my initial thread.

This place is a great resource though! I'm glad I wandered upon it!
