Today was my second day hunting and within 10 minutes I found my first treasure, a 14k yellow gold wedding ring. Found it on the beach. Just curious, how long did it take you guys to find your first good piece like a valuable coin, ring, or jewelry. It cant be this easy.

My first detecting outing back in 2007, I dug an engagement ring as my third or fourth target. The next week, at another beach, I dug a 10k diamond mens ring. On the other hand, it has been over seven years and I have yet to dig a silver quarter, half or dollar. So, no, it is not always that easy.

Thanks guys and gals. I believe the metal detector gods smile on the rookies to keep them coming back for more. It feels real good cleaning the beach of all the junk too. My right junk poket in my cargo shorts was full of bottle caps. I even enjoy digging those caps, it helps me practice my pin pointing, lol. I cant wait to head back out tomorrow!!! HH

My 10 year old son has been detecting for a few years, finally convinced me to start.
2nd day out I found a sterling silver ring... 4 inches down in the dirt at a campground.

(He was not very happy since he still hasn't found any jewelry)

Beginners luck...

My second day metal detecting here in Hollywood beach FL, i found a $150 benchmade pocket knife a silver chain and descent amount of clad with my Teknetics delta. 3rd day, nothing but pennies some quarters and enough aluminum and trash to smelt for money.

First day for me at a spot on north Hollywood Beach, just junk and clad. Second day on Dania Beach i scored the ring. I am consumed with this hobby. Now when I'm driving im constantly scanning areas to hunt, lol.
